If you like apple butter, wait until you taste sweet potato butter! Before refrigerators were part of every kitchen, people preserved fall crops for winter meals by “putting up” pickles, preserves and jams, fruit butters and vegetables. While the wood stove gets hot, learn about the three modern types of canning methods and then prepare sweet potato butter using a 19th century recipe.
Everyone will take home the recipe and a jar of sweet potato butter to enjoy. All supplies provided. Historian and living history interpreter Priscilla Marshall will teach class. Recommended for adults. Youth ages 12 to 17 may register if accompanied by a paid participating adult. Advance registration is required.
