The ongoing Legacy Collection Inventory Project has yielded an interesting find this week. We’ve located an original mining claim by pioneer Golden resident John G. Hendrickson dated March 15, 1865. This territorial document establishes Hendrickson’s ownership, for a $55 fee, “by pre-emption, of Claim No. Two West from the Discovery Claim on the Jefferson County Lode, situated in Golden City District.” The claim was documented in the records for the Territory of Colorado, entered by Recorder C. C. Carpenter.
John G. Hendrickson and his family were longtime Golden residents, with his wife arriving in Golden in 1859. Hendrickson died in February 1904 at 84 years of age, and is interred with his wife and daughters in Golden Cemetery.
