If you’ve been passed the Clear Creek History Park lately you’ve seen the brand new picket fence that was installed by the Golden Lions Club. Special thanks goes to John Spice, Kevin O’Connor and Robert Williams for helping to plan the project and manage the School of Mines volunteers during the post hole digging and concrete removal.
The fence has already received compliments and (like many projects all over Golden) wouldn’t have been possible without help from the Golden Lions Club. Thank you!
I think the new fence is not appropriate for the look of the Golden History Park Area. Although it surely is a very nice new fence, it looks out of place with the Historical School House+Cabins,+Farm. I am so used to seeing the log rail fence that when you come to walk,or you are a tourist, it really gives you the feel of a small part of Golden’s History + all of our History. It in my eyes+alot of people I have spoken with there in my walks, have said the same. Negative on the modern looking fence. I walk for exercise+especially take the paths by the Pioneer Park. I love the community gardens+the whole area lets you feel if just for the walk, that we have stepped back a little in time. I DO HAVE 1 of these fences in my backyard for my home used garden, but it really does not blend well w/the Historical idea of the Golden Pioneer Park. Also this park is a little part of Golden’s History+past. its very much used by many tourists from the beautiful Hotel nearby+schools+childrens learning centers. I love seeing the progress of the community gardens also. They are so beautiful+very well loved by the Golden Gardeners. And with the log rail fence, I have never had anyone tell me there ever was problems with disturbing them, that we would have to have an out of place picket fence to protect the area. Thank-you for listening. A Golden Resident+Neighbor. I hope you will reconsider going back to a log rail fence. you may want to consider donating the picket fence to someone in need if you reconsider.Lets try as much as we can to keep a little part of all Golden’s History alive, so we can actually feel the experience. It helps to connect+feel bonded to America’s past. You know, like in school, teachers teach, but also use visuals so we have the total connection. : )
Thank you for your comment. The fence is similar to one that was used on the Reynolds’ Ranch in Golden Gate Canyon in the 1870s. While not as large as the current fence, it appears that the Reynolds Family used a picket fence to protect their garden. This photo (linked below) was donated to the museum by the Jully family and is a part of the City of Golden photography collection.
