Pre-Visit Lesson: Vocabulary

Building Colorado Vocabulary Lesson

Note: Teachers can either use the provided lesson below, or use their own strategy to review the vocabulary definitions that will be needed for the program.

Lesson takes between 20 minutes and 60 minutes.

Objective:
Students will gain a better understanding of program vocabulary.

Summary:
In small groups, students create a dictionary of historical and economic terms relevant to Building Colorado.

Reading, Writing, and Communicating. Reading for All Purposes.

2.3: Interpret how the structure of written English contributes to the pronunciation and meaning of complex vocabulary

3.3: Correct sentence formation, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are applied to make the meaning clear to the reader.

Lesson:
Students are split into 10 total groups. These 10 groups can also be their groups for the Building Colorado lesson presented by Golden History Museums staff. Students can work individually or together to complete a dictionary using words chosen from the vocab list. Draw pictures and decorate as desired.
