Out with the old and in with the new

Gallery closed

Three galleries at the museum are now closed. We’re preparing to temporarily shut down and start a big remodel that includes four new galleries. It’s both bittersweet and exciting at the same time. Epic Events will remain open until Dec, 30, 2017.

Out with the old (you don’t hear that very often at a history museum)

Show & Tell (opened March 25, 2010)
Highlights from the permanent collection

Turn it Up (opened June 3, 2011)
Golden’s music makers

Made in Golden (October 11, 2013)
A celebration of innovation in Golden. All 3,870 Silver Bullet cans were returned to Rocky Mountain Metal Container Yesterday and the immensely popular Epilog Laser Engraver went to it’s original home too.

Cody hauls away all 3,870 Coors Light cans to their original home.

In with the new (maybe you don’t hear that enough at a history museum)

Highlights include four new galleries for visitors to explore, plus a freshening of the public areas.

  • Legendary People: where one may explore the people of Golden.
  • Touch Gallery: clay mining, brick-making, and big blue blocks!
  • Salon: a new museum theater and program space decked out in the spirit of the West.
  • History Lab: a gallery aptly named for its focus on the often behind-the-scenes work to catalog, research and care for the thousands of items from the collection in our care.

An exciting new chapter

The museum is starting new chapter, or maybe we’re writing a new book. Well, you be the judge of that. Just like life, it’s always a work in progress. Watch for updates.
