HistoryNarrow gauge caboose No. 49 was built by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway in 1881 and is important for its association with Colorado railroad history and for its engineering significance. The caboose served the railroad for 57 years before being retired in October 1938. It was recently restored to its 1880s appearance. It was place on the State Register of Historic Places (5JF1013.5) on September 11, 1996.
