History | Gertrude Wheeler Bell was a Golden pioneer and educator. She attended the South School and graduated in 1904. She began her teaching career in 1904 at the North School and later became the principal. She transferred to Mitchell Elementary School in 1941. Gertrude died in 1963 at the age of 87. That same year, a new school (Gertrude Bell Junior High School) was opened and dedicated to her. In 1994 the school underwent major remodeling and added a two-story classroom addition, a larger library, and a new office space. The school is located on a twenty-seven acre site. |
