HistoryThe Humphreys Dredge Tailings consist of a long series of cobblestone dunes stretching along Clear Creek through Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties. During the 1930s Clear Creek was uprooted by the Humphreys Dredge for the gold it contained, with large buckets scooping the riverbed and spitting it out the back into piles after gold was extracted. The Humphreys Dredge was the third and last gold dredge to operate in Jefferson County.
