| History | Eroded, upturned beds of the Fountain formation form two promontories here. A fault zone in the vicinity of Ralston Creek has aided in warping the formation even more. From Golden some residents refer to the Buttes as "Old Indian Head" because of their resemblance to a reclining human head when viewed from that direction. |
