HistoryIn 1880 this coal mine owned by John Nicholls and John A. Hoaeferned had sunk their shaft 100 feet. In 1881, shaft was down 175 feet with levels at bottom extending north and south 500 feet. Workforce of 75 to 100 men produced daily 75 to 100 tons. 1880 production 22,500 tons of coal. 1883 shaft down to 275 feet; mine had been idle for the past two years. Operated by Paul Lanious has daily output of 40 tons. 1896 daily output is 125 tons produced by 85 men averaging two dollars per day in wages.
