Golden Discovery Days, May 8 & 9, 2025

Golden History Museum & Park is excited to offer Golden Discovery Days, a fun-filled field trip experience happening this May.

During your visit, students will be able to experience 1800s homesteading life through activities such as washing laundry, attending school, or observing a blacksmith at work. Students will also get to experience activities provided by our local partners and explore art, history, science, and the natural environment (see our list below!).

Space is limited for this field trip event. Please book early to ensure your date and time is available.

Due to our small staff, we are unable to offer guided tours outside of our Golden Discovery Days field trip event. Please reach out to Jesse Gagnon with additional questions.

GHM&P also offers a variety of outreach programs where museum staff come to your school. These include Building Colorado: Communities, Building Colorado: Cities, and Ute Knowledge: STEM Kit.

Registration

Registration will open on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Reach out to Jesse Gagnon to be added to our waitlist and receive reminders about registration. Advanced registration is required. No group minimums or maximums.

This event does sell out. Registration requests are handled in the order they are received. Registrations are not confirmed until GHM&P receives a deposit. Please utilize our 2025 Teacher Planning Packet to help plan your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the structure of the field trip?

Students will explore our three-acre park in small groups with their chaperones. They can choose where they will spend their time and will have a map to see all of their options. Think of it like the zoo, but with varied activities instead of animals to visit.

Will the park be secure and safe?

The park is three acres. The responsibility of monitoring each individual student will be on the chaperones and teachers which you provide.

Will my group be at Golden History Park with other students?

This experience is only open to K-5 students and chaperones. We will have multiple schools on site at the same time, including homeschooling groups.

Can I bring my whole grade or homeschool group?

Yes! Depending on the size of the group we will try to fit you into time slots with other groups, so that we do not overcrowd the park.

Is there a place to have lunch?

The field trip visit is limited to your two-hour time slot. We recommend that you have lunch after or before your registered timeslot so that you can enjoy the full two hours in the park. There is no lunch space available inside the park. Please keep this addition time in mind when scheduling buses.

Locations to have lunch include Lions Park and Parfet Park. There are also limited spots for groups to have lunch along Clear Creek.

Are there bathrooms?

We will have porta potties on site for field trip participants.

Do you have drinking water available?

We do not have easy access to water fountains. We recommend that your students bring a water bottle on their field trip.

Are there resources to help me prepare myself and my students?

Teachers will be provided with pre-trip materials via email.

What if the weather is poor the day of our visit?

This is a rain-or-shine event and we do not give refunds for weather. This event runs primarily outdoors, and students will need to dress appropriately. May weather is notoriously unpredictable, so please prepare students as best you can with layers, water, sunscreen and/or winter coats if needed.
