Welcome Home: Honoring Colorado’s Vietnam Veterans Opens at Golden History Museum
Golden History Museum will soon open Welcome Home, a new exhibit honoring the veterans, volunteers, and civilians whose lives were shaped by the Vietnam War.
From 1960 to 1975, thousands of Americans served in Vietnam, volunteered with the Red Cross, or participated in civilian relief programs. Nearly 124,000 people from Colorado served, and at least 627 lost their lives.
The exhibit shares the voices and experiences of veterans from Golden and throughout Colorado—before, during, and after the war. Through personal stories and artifacts, visitors will learn about the diverse experiences of ground warfare soldiers, helicopter pilots, front-line volunteers, and others who endured the hardships and lasting effects of the conflict.
“These are not distant histories,” said Curator Stephanie Gilmore. “They are the voices of our neighbors, family members, and community leaders. This exhibit offers an opportunity to honor their service, remember those we lost, and recognize the long road to healing.”
Golden History Museum invites the community to visit the exhibit and hear the remarkable stories of Colorado’s Vietnam veterans.
Welcome Home will be on display at Golden History Museum beginning Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, with a free public reception which will begin at 5 p.m.
